Karate Classes in Olathe, KS
About John
I began my combat training when I was about 10 years old. My Father was a trainer for the Army for 22 years. He would not teach me specific techniques because he said they were too dangerous, but he did teach me hand-to-hand and close-quarters combat concepts and theories. In high school I began studying Shotokan Karate, the best-known style of Japanese karate. I studied several different styles from the best instructors I could find.
Most of my training took place in Texas where I was one of the states top ranked competitors for tournament and full-contact fighting. I hold a 3rd degree Black Belt in Shindo Jinen Ryu, as well as advanced belts in Shotokan Karate, Goju-Ryu, and Aikido. For over 30 years I have combined reality-based combat training with the following traditional Martial Arts:
- Shotokan Karate
- Jujitsu
- Aikido
- Goju-Ryu Karate
- Tae Kwon Do
- Judo
- Okinawan Kenpo
- Kung-fu
- Tai-jitsu (Ninjitsu)
- Shindo Jinen Ryu Karate (primary style)
Though I have dedicated a great deal of time and effort to teaching traditional Martial Arts, my specialty has always been self-defense and combat training. My most recent instructor was a former Military Intelligence Officer with a background in Counter-Terrorism tactics. Through him I learned to disregard the flashy, complicated techniques that look good, but only work 20% of the time. Instead, I only employ techniques that have been used and tested over and over again in real life-threatening situations. The concepts and techniques presented in Nihon Karate-do Misogi-kan are designed to be used by anyone, regardless of size, strength, or age.
*Ages 5 and up
